KEA -GSD
PROBLEM – EXTREME AGGRESSION TO OTHER DOGS.
Ron and Sandra obtained 5 year old Kea from a
well-known rescue agency two years ago and
despite their previous experience in
the breed, have had serious aggression issues towards other dogs ever since.
This has made it very difficult to ever let her off-lead and even whilst on the
lead, walking her in the vicinity of other dogs has been very difficult most of
the time.
I attended to assess the
situation and gave them a full programme to establish leadership within the
home and then followed this up with some socialization with Callum one of my
Rottweilers.
Initially, she demonstrated the usual high-level aggression
towards him, but Callum’s calm response soon changed her demeanour.
Subsequent
sessions led to further socialization with all three of my Rottweilers, Callum.
Robynne and Tara without incident.
Other dogs were encountered off-lead and Kea
caused no problems in a busy dog-walking area. Ron was given instruction on
aversion techniques to use if Kea should show aggression whilst on the lead and
her behaviour was much improved.
"
Kea is much better since you started training her
and me.
Off the lead she gets on well with most dogs and whilst she still
sometimes displays aggression whilst on the lead, this is much better than it
was and I think the (aversion techniques) you showed me will continue to make
improvements.
You have given me the knowledge to continue to work on this and I
feel confident that Kea will continue to improve. " Ron.
