BARNEY -KOOIKERHONDJE
PROBLEM – EXTREME AGGRESSION TO OTHER DOGS
Christine rang for help with Barney a dutch Kooikerhondje, who showed very high levels of aggression to other dogs whilst on the lead.
Off the lead he was a little stand-offish but the aggression was minimal. Christine and her husband Bob got Barney from a rescue society and had no idea of his problems at the time, which is so often the case.
The surprise usually comes on the first walk when dogs are encountered.
Barney is one of a very rare breed in this country being a Dutch spaniel type bred for all purpose working.
Christine in particular had found things very difficult due to her disability.
She used a mobility scooter and unfortunately Barney had pulled Christine and her scooter over on at least one occasion, in his aggression towards other dogs.
This clearly could not continue and Barney faced a potential return to the rescue society if his behavioural issues couldnt be resolved.
One visit and a session with two of my dogs Callum and Robynne showed major improvements in Barney. A further session confirmed those improvements and his future is looking much better now.
“We are so happy with the progress Barney made following your initial visit.
His aggression has reduced significantly and now he usually just looks at other dogs.
We have used the methods you showed us to interrupt any unwanted behaviour and we both feel much more confident now.
It looked as if we may have to return him to rescue a few weeks ago, but now there is no question of that and he has become a much more balanced family pet. Our second session today has confirmed the improvements and whilst we know we still have work to do, he is much calmer at home and his behaviour on walks when he meets other dogs on the lead has been transformed. Thank you so much for all your help.” Christine.
